Who We Are

Jammella Anderson

Jammella (they/them) is a Queer & Black Albany-based community activist, abolitionist, trauma informed yoga teacher, and doula. Jammella’s experience with food insecurity, their work with food insecure populations, and their knowledge of the disparities within underserved communities in Albany and the greater capital region -  motivated them to start the food justice program, ‘Free Food Fridge Albany.’ This project works with AND for the community to help end the food apartheid epidemic that systemic oppression has created within majority communities. Jammella has a fierce passion for helping the community and that has driven all of their mutual aid based projects - finding resource and bringing it to those who need AND deserve. With Free Food Fridge Albany, they looks to combat food insecurity, de-stigmatize underserved communities in ALL ways & providing free fresh food and low intervention foods in areas where there is limited resource.

“It can’t just be ONE person!!!….” Don’t worry it’s not!
This project would not be what it is with-out our lengthy list of volunteers, fridge hosts, restaurants, friends, neighbors, community, families and farmers! Each one of you is a crucial part in what we do as an organization and, for that, we are continually and particularly grateful for you all!

We are here for you, our community!
